I find it troubling that fine art ptahogrophy seems to be defined by images that deconstruct the human condition into its basest terms leaving the viewer to brood over the social significance of the images presented rather than bask in the joy, beauty, energy, humor, majesty, or serenity depicted. I believe the decisive moment need not be wretched or painful, yet I find the overwhelming majority of recognized fine art photographers relying solely upon the “truth” their camera captures as photographic “art,” roughly the antithesis of the other pictorial arts. Is there no room in this art form for songs of joy?
