(Paperback) Anthony Haynes' Writing Successful Textbooks is a much needed dissource on writing exposition for an audience of learners, especially students enrolled in college courses, from the perspective of an acquisitions editor in textbook publishing. Haynes links his suggestions and cautionary advice to models of learning theory and pedagogical frameworks as well as to best practices and realities in the textbook publishing industry today. This title is a practical, highly readable, serviceable guide for textbook authors.

Generally speaking, solituons guides and study manuals are pretty useless without the textbook. You can use the textbook without the guide, but you can't use the guide without the textbook and the guide is meant to supplement the textbook. From the sounds of it the solituons manual is going to give you answers (and maybe study tips or extra practice problems) for whatever work you do in the textbook. I understand wanting to save money but you really need to find a way that doesn't involve skipping over required course materials. They are required for a reason.
